What Is This Thickness

Learn how a woman feels her thick and heavy discharge could be detrimental to her health.

Case #: 827

Concern:

I consider myself to be a somewhat fortunate woman. Most of my male friends always say, “Never trust a species who can bleed for three days and survive.” To which I tend to respond, “Hey, I only bleed for one!” And while I am a light bleeder who experiences moderate PMS symptoms, I am beginning to wonder if my lack of bleeding is causing my current issue: thick discharge. I've noticed a heavy discharge after my period. What’s going on down there?

Discussion:

First off, let me express my absolute jealousy that I'm sure many other women will share with me. Three to five days of regular menstruation is about the norm for most women. However, there are women out there, like yourself that are either incredibly lucky light bleeders, or the ever unfortunate heavy bleeders. Personally, my periods can last anywhere from five, to some times seven days. The fact that your periods are so short is not what alarms me however. I want to focus on the abnormal discharge in your case. Most women experience heavy to moderate discharge right before their periods start.

Discharge Description

It's important for a woman to understand what kind of discharge she's experiencing and why it's occurring. It is very common for a woman to experience different levels of discharge flow before their period. A white discharge for instance, is the most common expressed before and after your period. After a woman has ovulated, her discharge will take on a more watery state with a certain amount of elasticity to it. And the closer we come to menstruation, the thicker and darker the discharge.

Abnormal Discharge

Though I believe that what you are experiencing is simply an unbalanced pH level, there is always the chance that your body is trying to tell you something more. I would advise you to pay close attention to the color and texture of the discharge. If you begin seeing a white discharge followed by itching in the vaginal area, you could possibly have a yeast infection. Also, any clumpy or, cottage cheese textured discharge colored yellow or with green hues almost always indicates an infection. The odor your discharge omits is also a clear indicator of what's really going on down there. Anything with a suspicious funk should be cared for properly. If this is the case, you should notify your doctor immediately and seek out medical attention as soon as possible.

What To Do

The best way to break up some of that thickness is through detoxification. The best way to head out on the detox process is by way of essential minerals and herbs. Natural minerals and herbs like Fenugreek, Rehmannia Glutinosa, and Bupleurum will help to rejuvenate the neuro-endocrine activity, increase the liver detoxification performance, and increase blood circulation. (TRY: Discharge Regulation Remedy) I would also recommend drinking a minimum of four glasses of water a day. This will help keep your pH balance at the correct levels and keep you properly hydrated throughout the day.
